ADHD Parent Support Post: You ARE a Good Parent!

June 29th, 2009 Posted in Support

Having a child with ADHD is really hard!

There will be times that you will feel frustrated and completely defeated.

There will be times when others will tell you (or imply) that you are a bad parent because your kid is misbehaving.

There will be times that you will feel completely out of control.

And you will feel that life is horrible and there will be no end to your suffering.

But I want you to know: YOU ARE A GOOD PARENT!

And you will find a way out.

If you are reading this;  If you spend your time researching and looking for ways to help your child;  If you keep trying different things and never give up, I just know that you will succeed.

I know you will because I have done it and so have many others.

So pat yourself on the back, give yourself a big hug, and say to yourself outloud: “I am a good parent.  I can do this!”

Thanks to your hard work, your child will get out of the situation they are in right now, their behavior will improve, and you will all be much happier.

It can be done.

I did it.

And so can you.

Just keep trying and it WILL happen.

Find yourself some ADHD parent support, or leave a comment here with your thoughts.  I would love to help you out and give you some insight into how life can be when the ADHD is under control.  And – of course – how to get there.

Go ahead.  I’m here.

I needed this! I took my son (age 4 1/2, just diagnosed a few months ago) to the state fair yesterday. My husband (what was HE thinking??? oh, I know my husband wasn’t going with us! lol) gave him some root beer before we left and my son was crazy the whole day.

I am usually a pretty patient parent, but when at a place like the state fair, I always worry about losing my son, and I get more tense than usual. So I wasn’t as patient and got after him more than I normally would. I still wasn’t one of those parents I would like to turn into children’s services, but I was disappointed in myself and felt bad at the end of the day. I am blessed with a ‘happy’ ADHD child, and am so thankful for him, that I hate to lose my patience.

Thank you for your encouraging words.
