Passion and Fun in Internet Marketing

July 27th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Strengths

Here’s something I posted on an Internet Marketing forum.

Please let me know what you think.

What I want to talk about in this post is having a passion for what you do and having fun.

In order to keep up your excitement in your business you have to have a passion for what you are doing and you have to have fun. These things often go together.

Don’t get me wrong. You don’t necessarily have to love your niche (though it does help), but rather you should love HOW you do things.

This is important to everyone, but especially for people who have AD/HD or have the type of personality that is similar – those who like to jump from thing to thing, need excitement, and find it hard to force themselves to focus.

Personally I have a passion for helping people, learning new things, and problem solving. And I use that when I do my IM work.

So even though I’ve been doing this for a while, I am not bored.

I think a lot of people are not understanding this. I see this time after time when people ask me for help.

When they start something new, everything is new and exciting and its easy to get things done.

But after a while it just gets to be work, and people lose the excitement that they had when they started out.

One person even told me that making money is just not exciting to him anymore. So he would end up doing other things instead of working like watching Youtube videos and talking to friends on Twitter and Facebook.

And he didn’t end up working that much.

Which for him was a problem because his business wasn’t doing that well.

After asking him a few questions, I found out that he was really interested in a particular topic which I don’t want to give away, so lets call it Algebra. He also liked teaching. However, online he was selling something totally different. Lets say it was clothing.

So every day he was faced with the decision of either going to Facebook and talking to people about Algebra or working on selling clothes.

And you know what?

He was much more interested in speaking to people about Algebra that dealing with the clothes.

So he had to force himself to work on the business.

And that was a big energy drain.

So I asked him: why don’t you teach Algebra online? Why not have a membership site where you teach an Algebra course?

And you know what? this person is doing it. He is are actually teaching Algebra online now.

And he is having a blast.

You should see the excitement and the spark in his eyes.

And he doesn’t even have to force himself to create a lesson.

There is no energy drain there.

And he outsources the technical parts (which he doesn’t enjoy).

So what I’m trying to say is that if you have fun and if you do what you are passionate about it will give you energy.

And if not – your work will just take energy away from you. And that will eventually turn into a problem.

So that’s what I want you to take a way from this post.

Pay attention to what you like, what you are good at, and what you enjoy, and focus on that.

Oh, yes. And if you do it wisely and apply it to a good niche, the money will follow…

Are You an ADHD Genius?

July 21st, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Strengths

I am reading The DaVinci Method and I love it!  If you haven’t read it yet – I strongly recommend you do so ASAP.

If you have ADHD – it could change your life.

The DaVinvi Method is all about transforming ADHD from a problem into a strength.

It will completely transform your thinking and show you how to unlock the genius in you.

In The DaVinci Method Garret LoPorto explains why so many successful inventors, pioneers, billionaires, salespeople, and innovators have been people with ADHD.

The really short summary is that people with ADHD have a lot of creative energy.

The key to success when you have ADHD is learning how to channel all that creative energy into taking intelligent risks, because people with ADHD are brilliant risk takers.

But why does ADHD help a few people achieve brilliance and success, while leaving many others struggling just to get by?

That is what this book is all about.

While other therapies try to force those with ADHD to behave more like “normal” people, this book recognizes the genius behind ADHD and helps you harness it.

Are You or Your Child The Next Rebel Billionaire?
Are You or Your Child the Next Great Artist or Inventor?
Do You or Your Child Have the Potential to be a Great Leader or Rock Star?

Could very well be.

The DaVinci Method is your manual for getting there.

And that’s why I recommend it.

Kids with ADHD NEED to fidget

July 17th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in School

A study at the University of Central Florida showed that kids with ADHD need to fidget when concentrating on difficult tasks.

They gave them assignments to do and found that the more the kids had to concentrate and use their working memory (the short term memory we use in day to day tasks) – the more the kids fidgeted and bounced around.

So if your kid is having a hard time in school, discuss this with them and explain that this is a valid need that should be addressed..  Together try to come up with a way that your child can move without getting yelled at.

Maybe your child can go out of the class and walk around for a few minutes.  Maybe he or she can hold a ball in their hand and squeeze it.   Or maybe you can come up with something else that will be acceptable to the school.

These things have been tried before and they have worked.

An ADHD friendly school goes a long way to make your child feel better and behave better.  If your school is not ADHD friendly, see what you can do to increase awareness and help them come up with ideas that will help your child and them.

ADHD & Hyperfocus

July 14th, 2009 | 2 Comments | Posted in Positive aspects

Today I want to talk about hyperfocus and how you can use it to become very successful in life.

Most people with ADHD will know what I mean by hyperfocus.

It’s when you overfocus on a task.  That task gets all your attention and all outside distractions get blocked out.  Often hours will pass and you will not notice.

So when you are in hyperfocus you are seriously focused on the task at hand, and you may not hear me if I talk to you.  In fact, you may get pretty irritated if interrupt that way!

Lots of people with ADHD hyperfocus on video games, socializing online, or reading fiction.

They lose a lot of time that way…

What you need to know is that hyperfocus could and should be used to your advantage.

I fact, many writers, scientists, and entrepreneurs have used hyperfocus in order to become extremely successful.

And so should you.

You might know already what subjects and actions interest and excite you – you will tend to hyperfocus on those automatically.

If you don’t – pay close attention. This may be the secret to your success.

Once you know what makes you go into hyerfocus, you should see how you can get that to work for you.

For example, I tend to hyperfocus when I have a difficult logical problem to solve.  This makes computer programming a good career choice for me.  When I have a task that I need to program, I could work on it for hours and get it done really well.

Other people really like to write, and they will hyperfocus on that.

What is it that brings you into hyperfocus?  How can you use it to your advantage?

Finding the answers to these questions can make all the difference in your life.

Not only will you be more successful, but you will have fun and enjoy life a lot more than now!

ADHD in Toddlers

July 5th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Toddlers

A lot of people ask me: do you think my toddler has ADHD?

And I tell them: it doesn’t really matter.

Why?

Because the issue they are having with their toddler is that he or she is very active, and possibly also defiant.

So I say, at this point just take care of these issues.

You want to get them to:

  • Run around less
  • Sit down and play quietly for short periods of time
  • Cause less destruction around the house
  • Fight less
  • Listen to instructions and obey them

And whether they end up being diagnosed with ADHD or not, you should be dealing with these issues the same way.

How?

First of all – check your toddler’s diet.  Is she eating too much sugar?  Are you using ways to even out the sugar lows and highs?

Second – are you using positive reinforcement and behavior modification techniques to help your toddler learn proper behavior?

Is your toddler getting enough sleep?

For more information on what you need to be doing, sign up here and get my free guide, and if you have any questions, please ask below.

It’s not easy have a very active toddler, but now is a great time to start learning how to deal with him.  So read the guide and do what it says.  You can thank me later :-)

Sugar Affects Your Brain

July 5th, 2009 | 1 Comment | Posted in Diet, Nutrition

If you ever had too much sugar and felt your brain going into a fog, you know that sugar affects your brain.

If you’ve ever watched a kid eat a lot of sugar and start acting like a kid tornado, you know that sugar affects the brain.

Although scientific research has not proven this, sugar makes ADHD symptoms worse.

And for the record – when I say sugar I mean any food with a high glycemic index.

Don’t believe me?  Try eating something with a lot of sugar (a can of pop will do the trick) or giving it to your child, and watch what happens.

The key is in paying attention to changes in mood and behavior.

Everybody that I have spoken to has found that sugar does indeed have a drastic effect, especially on people with ADHD.

So what can you do?

First of all, really try to avoid foods with a high glycemic index.

Eliminate junk food as much as possible.

Second, when you eat carbohydrates, or foods with sugar, make sure to take some protein with it.  Protein levels out the highs and lows of sugar in your bloodstream and therefore evens out the amount of sugar that gets to your brain.

I have found that protein really helps in  minimizing the effect of sugar on the brain, and can often even eliminate symptoms (of course, it depends on the amount of sugar you just had)

In fact, since you don’t want to have drastic sugar highs or lows in your bloodstream, eating small frequent meals with some (complex) carbohydrates and protein is a good idea.

If you are unnverved by ADHD symptoms in you or your child, seriously consider the amount of sugar you have in your diet.

ADHD Remedy – eBook Review

July 3rd, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in eBooks

ADHD Remedy by Scott Saunders promises to teach parents how to improve ADHD symptoms naturally.

I recommend this ebook only if you know nothing about ADHD and want a basic and brief description of treatment options.

This ebook is not going to transform your child into a calm, focused person. It will just give you a general idea of where to start and what to try in your search for relief.

The one thing it does go into more detail about is herbal and homeopathic remedies. That section is larger than the others and provides more information.

Although all the information in this ebook is freely available online, it’s nice to have it available in one place.

My rating: 3 stars

ADHD Parent Support Post: You ARE a Good Parent!

June 29th, 2009 | 1 Comment | Posted in Support

Having a child with ADHD is really hard!

There will be times that you will feel frustrated and completely defeated.

There will be times when others will tell you (or imply) that you are a bad parent because your kid is misbehaving.

There will be times that you will feel completely out of control.

And you will feel that life is horrible and there will be no end to your suffering.

But I want you to know: YOU ARE A GOOD PARENT!

And you will find a way out.

If you are reading this;  If you spend your time researching and looking for ways to help your child;  If you keep trying different things and never give up, I just know that you will succeed.

I know you will because I have done it and so have many others.

So pat yourself on the back, give yourself a big hug, and say to yourself outloud: “I am a good parent.  I can do this!”

Thanks to your hard work, your child will get out of the situation they are in right now, their behavior will improve, and you will all be much happier.

It can be done.

I did it.

And so can you.

Just keep trying and it WILL happen.

Find yourself some ADHD parent support, or leave a comment here with your thoughts.  I would love to help you out and give you some insight into how life can be when the ADHD is under control.  And – of course – how to get there.

Go ahead.  I’m here.
